You can find me in da club!

Any 50 Cent fans out there?

Anyone...

No?

It's your birthday? No one?

It always stinks when I come up with what I feel to be a clever title for my blog - and no one gets it. But if you do get it, I am giving you a mental high-5! Wow - how many people have I lost on this one?

Okay, so I just got back from being away in California for 12 days. 12 days away from my pregnant wife and two kids. Youch! When I got home, she had moved and hasn't left me a note (rim shot). That is the last bad joke.

I was in San Diego assisting a week long course on personal mastery. Mainly, the course is called "Leading with Mastery," and it provides a real inspiring space to really clearly define your own personal purpose statement - and more importantly - how to live up (and in) that purpose. I took the course a year ago - and now I was assisting on this one - and it was still fabulous!

After the course ended, I spent a few days in LA because a friend of mine was getting married. Feeling newly rejuvenated - I was ready to take my purpose statement back into the real world. Because really, it is easy to feel inspired when you are in a group of people all feeling inspired. It's a little different when you're in a trendy club in Hollywood - surrounded by...let's just say...not so inspired people? Maybe? I don't want to judge.

And that is where I found myself with a friend of mine who had been invited to this club to celebrate a friend's birthday. There I was...33 years (not so) young, a father of two (soon 3), happily married of 10+ years...and really just wanting to sleep more than anything. But alas...I was in da club...doing my best to stay on purpose.

A quick word on your personal purpose - it is with you all the time! No matter where you go - no matter what you do - no matter who you pretend to be - IT'S ALWAYS THERE! Sometimes it whispers, "Hey Travis, not sure if yelling at the game on TV is really being on purpose!" Other times, more direct, "What in the heck are you doing at this party man? Wait...was that Hugh Heffner?"

Your purpose is always there. To me - my purpose is my highest spiritual expression. It is perfect Travis! No faults, no fears, no judgment - just perfect! Why? Because I feel that when we are all on purpose - we are truly living and making decisions based on the very reason we are in this world...

Even in da club in LA!

So, there I was - talking to a 24 year old lead singer of an up and coming band - surrounded by hundreds of people with unfortunately low self-esteem - and what are we talking about?

Life coaching. What else?

Yup...with the sound of bass in the background - and having lost my voice (literally - first time ever) - we talked about life coaching - and he shared how he wishes I would talk to his mom and sister because they are both needing to really focus their lives.

The experience to me was proof positive - that no matter where you go - you can always be on purpose! It is always there...

BECAUSE IT IS WHO YOU ARE!!!!

So, who are you?

Let's chat! "Go shorty...it's your birthday!"

Much love,

Travis

One is Enough

I believe I have stated it in the past, but my passions in life are pretty simple. I am passionate about my family, passionate about helping others, and passionate about performing. I have been very intentional in the past few years to consciously carve out a life that keeps those three passions in the forefront of everything that I do. This includes:

* Working from home to be closer to my family.

* Co-Founding an Improv Comedy group that allows me to perform regularly and teach.

* Becoming a Life Coach.

It is pretty safe to say that anything I spend time doing fulfills one of my passions - and if it doesn't - I try to get rid of it - or delegate it.

My passions keep me on purpose. My purpose is my reason for being. When I am living my purpose I am blessing myself, my family, and the world.

If that is true - what are the implications for not being on purpose?

(Pretty obvious) What's the point?

When we think about the things that we're passionate about - and those things that give us a sense of purpose - it is easy to think it is a selfish and individual endeavor. We never stop to consider how others are effected by our decision to make choices that further our growth and fulfillment. Besides, it's just my life - so what does it matter to you?

Right?

Recently I have been inspired by two stories - by two extraordinary individuals - living very ordinary lives.

My wife and I recently rented the movie "Freedom Writers," the true story of a young teacher in California who transformed the lives of every student that found their way into her classroom. It is a theme that has been done before, and that is probably the reason I resisted seeing it for so long - but after a few recommendations I finally gave in. I am glad I did. No matter how many times these stories have been told, they all represent the power of one. One person - living on purpose - can change a whole community. In this film, the teacher endured a school staff who didn't believe in her, a father who thought she was wasting her time, and a husband that divorces her because of her committment to the students. She even takes on two extra jobs so that she can buy her own books when the school turns her down. One woman, on purpose, who never gives in to the pressure and negativity surrounding her - and a result a community will never be the same.

The other story is about another young woman who was coaching youth soccer in Georgia. Born in Jordan, but graduating from Smith College in the US, she spent a few years coaching well-to-do teams in the Atlanta suburbs. Yet, every time she would drive through a poorer part of town she felt more at peace because it reminder her of home. So, leaving the better funding behind she decided to start coaching young teens in this deprived area. What she quickly learned was that over half of the town consisted of refugees from countries all over the world. The kids have parents missing in Africa, parents who could not speak English and provide for them, and many of them had witnessed horrendous attrocities. She became their coach, but she also became their ray of hope of how to become a better person. She tutored them, drove them around town, and did anything that needed to be done. Recently the New Tork Times featured them in a front page article, ESPN featured them on Sportscenter, and the rights for a film about them has been purchased for roughly 3 millions dollars. As a result, every child on that team, and children still to come - will now have their college tuitions paid for.

One woman. One purpose. A community that will never be the same.

Neither of these women started out to change the world. One was a school teacher. The other was a youth coach. Yet, when you find your passion, live on purpose, and don't let anything take you off purpose - extraordinary things can happen.

One is enough! You are enough!

Do you feel connected to your purpose? Are you capable of doing and being more?

I hope the answer is yes!

Much love,

Travis

Be Direct!

For the last few months I have mentioned that I am now doing life coaching. Now, this isn't a decision that just sort of happens, and for me, it has been something that has continued to evolve in my thought. The clearer I have become with my own personal passions and purpose - the more obvious the choice of becoming a life coach has been.

So, I would like to take this moment to introduce everyone to the Web site for Direct Life Coaching - www.directlifecoach.com

Hi, I'm Travis - the founder of Direct Life Coaching :)

When I say the name "Direct Life Coaching," it doesn't necessarily boom with creative resonation in my head - yet I like the symbolism behind the name.

What symbolism are you referring to Travis?

That is an excellent question me. The reason I like "Direct" is because I feel that working with a life coach allows you to take a more direct path to your goals and aspirations. I feel that all of us have a personal purpose, as well as many interests that drive us, yet we let a myriad of obstacles get in our way from pursuing them. The role of the life coach is assist you in standing in that place where your dreams and goals are not only possible - but attainable. The life coach sees the perfect you - and then invites you to see yourself the same way. In doing so, the coach helps you take a more direct path (instead of the roller coaster ride life often feels like).

Sounds fun, right?

But wait - there's more!

For just two easy payments of $19.95...whoops...sorry.

The other (and more creative) reason I like the use of the word "direct" is because I feel that all of us sit in the director's chair of our own life. Yet, how often do we look at our own life and feel that we aren't in control of anything? Kind of hard to achieve those goals and dreams if we don't feel we have a real say.

Let's face it. We do. Not that it is always easy - but when it comes right down to it - the only thing stopping us from the life we want to live is actually - us. Sure, there are plenty of circumstances and cases we can make for what is getting in the way, but as Jack Canfield eloquently stated, all those add up to a heap of "so what!"

We all have "so what" in our life - we all have obstacles and hardships - yet we all have the choice to what we do about. We all have the choice, right here, right now - to call our own shots.

Like a director, our life is our movie. You are also the lead actor! Who do you choose to associate with? They are your cast. Is your life a drama, comedy, tragedy, action, romance, or all of the above? Guess what - you are also the screenwriter. How do you want your movie to end? Well, you're the director - so you are calling the shots.

So Direct Life Coaching is about putting your in the director's chair of your life - and inspiring you to direct the life you have always wanted to live!

On a spiritual level - I feel we are all capable of greatness because we are the expression of Love and perfection. It is our Source, and we are the product. On a practical level - we are all capable of a better life - regardless of what those around us, society, and our own personal fears try to limit us to.

Please take some time to visit my site. Please take me up on a free 1-on-1 consultation - and if you decide not to - please send my site along to someone you think could use a boost.

It's your life - your movie. LIFE - COURAGE - ACTION!

Drop the meatballs!

This just in...Quizno's Subs has discontinued their Meatball Sandwich. I know - I am floored as well! I found out Sunday night when my wife and I grabbed a quick bite before a movie (BTW...Fracture...good movie)...and low and behold - NO MEATBALL SANDWICH on the menu anymore! According to the manager, "Yeah, they've discontinued it." Riveting quote!

Blasphemous! How do you drop the meatball sub? Who do they think they are Quizno's?

According to the manager, they dropped the Meatball because the menu is going in a different direction, besides, "Everyone has a meatball sub." It wasn't doing anything special for them.

Okay, I am heart-broken over the decision - but I respect their choice - and it got me thinking...

What can I drop off of my menu?

You know...we all have our menus...the qualities we carry around with us that we feel define us. But, not everything we carry around with us is necessarily doing anything good for us - in fact, a lot of these ideas only hold us back.

When you think about it - the perception you have of yourself and others is solely based on past experiences. Since I, Travis, have consistently displayed moments of impatience in the past - I therefore must be IMPATIENT!

Put it on the menu.

That's what we do. We gather up all of our past experiences - throw them on our menu board - and walk around displaying it for everyone to see.

"Hey, here comes impatient Travis."

"There goes cranky Janet."

"Good morning Doug the victim."

So, we spend our lives acting out qualities based on "who we were," instead of focusing on "who do I want to be right now?"

Right?

Right now, as I type this, I am not impatient. I can make the conscious choice this very moment to put up different qualities on my menu board - and then all I need to do is act them out.

So, welcome to Travis! Today's special is: PATIENCE, JOY, COMPASSION, COURAGE, & LOVE. Side items include: GRACE, PEACE, and your choice of GRATITUDE or KINDNESS. For dessert, as always, a nice slice of HUMBLE pie!

Why not?

As you read this right now - you have the choice to drop those meatballs ofF your menu - and create the menu you want others to see and feel.

One step at a time - one moment at a time - one response at a time.

Eckhart Tolle in the Power of Now writes, "Your outer journey may contain a million steps; your inner journey has only one; the step you are taking right now."

Mary Baker Eddy expanded this concept of "nowness" into all aspects of life - even health. She writes, "Become conscious for a single moment that Life and intelligence are purely spiritual,--neither in nor of matter,--and the body will then utter no complaints."

Take this single moment - right now - and arrange your menu board for the rest of the day. Who do you want to be right now? Write the qualities down. Take them with you all day. Stick with it!

Remember, don't forget to drop the meatballs!

Much love,

Travis

P.S. - If you haven't purchased my book, you still can. Also, feel free to give me a call for a complimentary 1 on 1 coaching session (Web site coming soon). Lastly, I found this at thought you all might enjoy it!
