What is Direct Life Coaching?

The purpose of Direct Life Coaching is to help you achieve your full potential in life, career, relationships, and overall personal fulfillment. It is our belief that everyone has a unique and individual purpose. You may already know what it is, or you may still be trying to articulate it in your life, but the bottom line is, we all have it! Direct Life Coaching is about listening, guiding, and inspiring you to realize and act on your purpose.

Whether you are an executive setting new goals, a student searching for purpose, or a parent striving for meaning and balance — we want to see you shine!

Why do I need a life coach?

Maybe you don't. Like most people, I know I have excelled most in life when I have worked closely with a mentor or coach. It is often during these times when I have been pushed further than I would of gone on my own and forced to venture out beyond my comfort zone to new stages of progress and success. A life coach provides an honest, unbiased, and outside perspective to how we see ourselves - and will help probe and ask those tough questions we might not be asking ourselves. Most important, working with someone who knows my goals and vision has made me more accountable, and less likely to flake or take the easy way out.

Couldn't I just read a book or watch a DVD?

Sure. Books, DVDs, and other resources are great tools to help us achieve our goals. If we are looking for lasting progress, my recommendation would be to work with a resource that can actually talk back ;) Just like anything in life — the more commitment you put forth, the better the results. Your coach will be there to motivate you on days when need a boost — and your coach will be there to congratulate you when obstacles are overcome.

Is a life coach the same as a counselor or therapist?

No. Life coaching is not counseling and it's not therapy. There may be times when a life coach is more direct in pointing out obstacles that you keep bringing to the surface, but the onus in a life coaching relationship is always on you. The coach's job is to help you achieve your goals and purpose, but the level of success and progress is completely dependent on the honesty and effort you bring to the table, and how willing you are to take the necessary action. Just as in sports, the coach can teach and inspire to the best of your ability — but it is up to you, the player, to put it to work.

Being a coach, are you going to yell at me?

I cannot speak for every coach, but yelling is probably not a common quality amongst life coaches. In fact, as soon as the coach/client relationship begins to feel like a burden, it probably means the relationship is not a good fit.

There are many styles of coaching, both in sports and life coaching, but I try to keep the chair-throwing to a minimum. ;)
